#MotivationMonday: On Bravery

Good morning, friends! Happy #MotivationMonday!

It’s been a long time since I’ve written a #MotivationMonday post. Admittedly, I’ve fallen out of the habit. Forgiveness! Today I was feeling the need to spread a little love… so voila! Our motivating quote of the day:

“It’s okay to be scared. Being scared means you’re about to do something really brave.”

This quote really resonates with me. There have been so many times when I’ve had this visceral, scared reaction. Like, butterflies in the pit of my stomach, pounding in my chest, burning in my brain kind of feeling. It felt as though I would literally explode if I didn’t do what I felt I needed to do. You know the feeling I’m talking about?

For me, it goes all the back to high school, maybe even beyond that. That time when a teacher asked a question and I knew the answer; when someone was bullying a friend and I stood up for them; or when I’ve not been treated fairly and spoke out about it. Even though those moments were scary:

there’s nothing like the satisfaction of doing what you know, in your heart of hearts, is the right thing.

That, my friends, is bravery in its purest form. Fear can certainly be a warning sign that bad things are on the horizon. But, more often than not, fear is just a barrier you’ve created in your own mind that is actually holding you back from greatness. Getting in touch with yourself and listening to your body is a great way to find the line between legitimate danger and manufactured fear.

But, let’s be honest for a second. I don’t always listen to my inner voice like I used to. It seems that as I’ve gotten older I’ve lost my nerve. I overthink things and suppress my initial reactions. It seems like all too often these days I let my fear rule my actions. Maybe I’m more pragmatic now, or perhaps I’m just not as brave as I used to be. Whatever the reason…

today’s #MotivationMonday is a personal reminder for myself,

and for anyone else out there who’s been too scared to listen to your inner voice. Maybe it’s time to leave that soul sucking job? Book that plane ticket to India? Leave a toxic relationship? Pursue your life’s passion? Whatever the goal, the only way to overcome that fear is by being brave, really brave and taking action.

When’s the last time you listened to your inner you and overcame your fears? Tell me about it in the comments below, and check back next week for another inspiring #MotivationMonday.
